Marat Safin has become the editor-in-chief of the new Tennis Style magazine.

Marat played one of my other retired faves, Goran Ivanisevic, yesterday at the Tennis Legends event in Moscow! More about this match here :)
MARAT IN THE NEWS:
This is something related to a piece of news I posted a few months back about the Rise of Legends exho that Marat is participating in along with Andre Agassi, Mikhail Youzhny and Yen-hsun Lu:
Kaohsiung City and the team behind “Rise of Legends” decide to follow Agassi’s lead to extend help to underprivileged by giving out free tickets to see the inspiring figure.
The event co-host, Department of Sports, Kaohsiung City and Integration Sports have decided to give tickets to students from low-income family and victims of typhoon Morakot, hoping that these five tennis super stars’ high spirit would inspire the minority to bravely “Fight Again”.
Not only has the co-host encouraged the public to grasp the opportunity to witness this history-making tennis event, but also hoped to bring students of low-income family and victims of typhoons into the arena to feel the positive energy of this legendary match.
The Rise of Legends tennis exhibition will be held in Kaohsiung Arena on January 8th, 2011. Check out the site here.
Great stuff, that :)
Back in March DE I had a feature on Marat, and here is the online version of the interview!
One thing I absolutely love about Marat is his outlook on life. This interview tackles the typical questions he’s posed with but his answers get more introspective and philosophical as he’s gotten older. The Google-translated version is here, definitely worth a read!
And as a bonus here’s a photostream of the magazine contents. Ah to have a copy of this amazing thing of beauty ♥
Enjoy!
Heads up folks!
As confirmed by Dinara through her presser at New Haven (thanks to Forty Deuce; if you’re not reading her, then why the heck not?!?) Marat will be making his way down to NYC for the coming USO!
I’ve no idea in what capacity he’ll be appearing there as/for, will update as soon as I gather more news. To those planning to go, happy stalking viewing!
Mark your calendars!
MARAT IN THE NEWS:
- For the Asian-based fans, Marat will be playing some exhibition matches with Andre Agassi in Taiwan early next year! He will be at Taipei Arena on Jan. 6, 2011 and at the Kaohsiung Arena on Jan. 8, 2011. Tickets for the events are already being sold, for those thinking of going get yours fast (this was posted last June, my lack of promptitude: let me show you it)!
- Sorry to say, but Marat does not miss tennis. Funny, since there have also been sightings of him at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and he’s also been seen helping the Russian DC team just recently! Keep telling that story bb :)
- He’s also been making the rounds on the red carpet, sighted at a Moscow film premier. Breathe easy, it ain’t Eclipse ;) Though his Ed Hardy obsession has got. to. go.
MTF is a gift that keeps on giving <3
Thanks to monkeytattoo for once again making our days hotter than usual - so in my case that makes today about oh, 50C? It is crazy hot here right now!
P.S. Confusion in the earlier post has been cleared - the man in the photo is definitely Marat, the question was directed at the photo seen here - the link is NSFW, mostly due to some lady’s bum being almost exposed, lol.
My verdict? That man ain’t Marat by a mile. His chest is not broad enough and his hair’s not curly enough, even when wet!
(Thanks for the heads up over at MTF, monkeytattoo! I would reply there myself but I can’t find my account info for the forums and I’m not too sure if I can open up a new one so for now I’m just a lurker :p )
xx
Marat’s “DE I” interview :)
Remember the magazine cover I posted a few days back? Thanks to the lovely people over at MTF we’ve finally got a translation of the interview!
Very long, but very satisfying :) CLICK THE LINK and you’ll be directed to the page with the translation (there are two translations, but scroll down for the one made by AnnieNik because the first is only Google-translated)!
I was going to post it here, but I figured it’d be too long and you might crucify me ;p If, however, there are those who’d like to have it up here anyway, let me know?
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, March 12 – Marat Safin was stunned in his debut match on the Champions Series tennis circuit Friday, losing 7-6 (4), 6-4 to Wayne Ferreira in the quarterfinals of the Banco Cruzerio do Sul Rio Champions Cup. (via World Tennis Magazine)
So good to see him back in a tennis kit, no? Check out his Fila duds!
