Marat Safin has become the editor-in-chief of the new Tennis Style magazine.

Marat played one of my other retired faves, Goran Ivanisevic, yesterday at the Tennis Legends event in Moscow! More about this match here :)
Marat in the News:
Marat withdraws from the Hong Kong Tennis Classic - Unfortunately Marat will be unable to play the Hong Kong exho that’s to start on the 6th because of a persistent wrist injury. Yevgeny Kafelnikov will be taking his place as a member of Team Russia. This is the second exho he’s withdrawn from, let’s hope for more opportunities to see Marat back in action but before that, let’s wish for his speedy recovery!

This RIA Novosti article has an interesting bit about Marat’s activities with the Russian Olympic Committee - read it under the heading Changes of Leadership in Sports Agencies.
For those suffering from TL;DR syndrome here’s the Marat-centric bit:
The same day, the assembly also elected the committee’s entire leadership, including the vice presidents, the general secretary and the executive committee members. Marat Safin, a famous tennis player who recently ended his professional career, was among the candidates for one of the three vice presidential positions, but he withdrew his candidacy a day before the elections.
He explained to RIA Novosti that he did not yet have sufficient experience to work as vice president and had therefore decided to take a position with the newly established Council for Assistance to Russian Olympic Committee. According to Safin, he doesn’t yet know what will be his new field of responsibility.
The pertinent section of the article includes a background on the events leading up to Marat’s candidacy and surprisingly his withdrawal from the elections - I thought he was elected as VP but apparently that’s not the case.
Aww, our Russian party boy is now a working boy! *proud mama tears*
Marat in the News:
As I’ve posted here a few weeks back, Marat was scheduled to play the Peugeot Copa Argentina Tennis Exhibition this coming weekend, but according to these sources (second link is in Spanish), he has bowed out of the exho because of his commitments in connection to the Olympics Committee election.
These sources indicate that he has already been elected as VP, but initial reports have said that the elections are this weekend. We’ll just have to wait and see what the real deal is!
